EMDR & ART

Trauma treatment that reaches where words do not.

Some experiences leave marks that do not respond to conversation alone. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) are evidence-based trauma treatments that work directly with the nervous system to reduce the distress attached to difficult memories. Both are recognized by the APA and the Department of Veterans Affairs as effective trauma treatments. At SHARE, these modalities are offered by trained, certified clinicians within a warm, carefully paced therapeutic relationship.

Who it is for.

  • Survivors of single-incident trauma (accidents, assault, medical events)
  • People with complex or developmental trauma who feel "stuck"
  • LGBTQ+ individuals with trauma tied to identity, rejection, or violence
  • Veterans and first responders with PTSD or moral injury
  • Neurodivergent clients whose nervous systems process distress differently
  • Anyone for whom traditional talk therapy has not fully addressed the trauma

What happens in sessions.

EMDR and ART both begin with a thorough assessment and stabilization phase before any trauma processing. Your therapist will explain the process clearly and check in continuously throughout. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements or tapping) while ART uses a specific imagery rescripting protocol. Both approaches are designed to reduce the emotional charge of traumatic memories and help your nervous system settle into a more adaptive response. Most clients begin to notice shifts within 6 to 12 sessions, though the pace is always yours to set.
